Prospects for 2019

There is no doubt that our world is in a state of upheaval, the like of which we in the wealthy west haven’t experienced for a long time.  A new world order is being shaped and some of this seems quite frightening as the forces of fascism are rearing their heads in so many countries.  There are also signs of the opposite trend, of the breaking down of inequalities, of personal empowerment, particularly of women, of growing ecological awareness.  We can choose but these are big choices these days – the decline of our humanity into sectional fighting and protection of narrow borders or building an new ecologically conscious civilisation for the future.

What is being lost, for many of us, is the sense of predictability about the future. So much seems at risk and uncertainty and fear can easily set in, so 2019 begins in a climate of worry and fear for the future but it also brings some bright possibilities to be followed if only we can be brave enough to fashion a better world.

So this is my interpretation of the flavour of the times for next year:

Paradoxically, we begin the year with Jupiter entering Sagittarius. This is usually seen as beneficial but in these times it can be quite the opposite: too much hyperbole and ‘bigging things up’ with everyone believing, espousing and sometimes shouting their own ‘truth’.  Beware of the people who seem to be so certain about everything. It will be an illusion!  Life is much more complex than that and there are many twists and turns in the road ahead!

The other trend is that we are being encouraged to come down to earth by the influence of both Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn. This encourages us to just take deliberate baby steps towards what we want and you may find that this will work better for you than grand crazy notions and radical actions.  So don’t push too hard as you get into your stride in this new year. Jupiter is probably over-promising and over-excitable and will continue to be so all year – it’s best to keep your eyes on the road ahead and don’t allow too many distractions.

Quite a lot can be achieved like this but of course, as the year moves on, new ideas and energies do develop and we will have to see which ones work for us. We are still being encouraged to get rid of things that have gone past their sell-by date but it’s all very much ‘feet-on-the-ground’ stuff for the moment.

Saturn and Pluto continue to move ominously closer together throughout the year. This time next year is going to be big  …
